Introduction :

The character and quality of process oils depend on how they are manufactured. In general, there are two manufacturing processes, the original solvent extraction process, and modern hydroprocessing technology. Today, nearly all process oils are manufactured using the older solvent extraction process.

New all-hydroprocessing technology improves the quality of process oils. At Its Mumbai Refinery, BPCL operates the most sophisticated all-hydroprocessing facility for the manufacture of base oils and process oils. In hydroprocessing, undesirable components are converted to desirable and more stable molecular structures via saturation, ring opening, and heteroatom removal. In hydrofining, the final stage of hydroprocessing, any remaining aromatics are hydrogenated, further improving oxidation stability and color. The result is MAKBase – a chemically pure, practically water-white, paraffinic process oil with exceptional color stability.

Product Quality:

As MAKBase is produced by all-hydroprocessing, it has performance properties that surpass most conventional paraffinic process oils and approach or surpass many of the performance characteristics of technical white oils. These advantages include:

• Exceptionally low aromatic content
• Very low Sulphur content
• Very High Viscosity Index
• Better color and UV stability than conventional paraffinic or naphthenic oils
• Lower volatility
• Excellent Oxidation Stability
• Excellent compatibility with rubber polymers which require paraffinic oils. Only all-hydro process oils can deliver all of these advantages

Benefits :

• Considering the severe All Hydro processed route for manufacturing, MAKBase oils have a higher percentage of saturates and are thus less susceptible to degradation over time. Hence, with the use of the right additive chemistry, the formulated lubricants have the capability to improve the life of the lubricants.
• Higher VI ensures that proper lubrication at even at high operating temperatures besides providing very good low-temperature properties.
• Lower volatility results in fewer emissions, so less make-up oil is needed and costs are minimized
• The excellent color stability helps in ensuring identifying contaminants if any while in service, especially in hydraulic systems.
• These oils also have low SAPS and hence when blended with the optimum additive system have better chances to meet the most stringent of the specifications like ILSAC GF4 and proposed PC 10 category.
• When used in formulated lubricants giving a VI in excess of 150, MAKBase has a great potential for energy savings in both industrial as well as automotive applications.
